Lamentaions 3:21
"But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:"
Morning Notes : Lamentaions
Hello friends! This morning I read Lamentaions. LORD Willing I will be posting a lot of these short "Morning Notes" blogs as they help me gather my thoughts from my morning Scripture reading.
A huge theme that struct my attention was the theme of no more comfort. Jerusalem had their comfort in this temporal world and turned away from the LORD.(Jeremiah 25:7) But, now that they have fallen, all their comfort is gone.
"Zion stretches out her hands, "she dwells now among the nations,
but there is none to comfort her;" but finds no resting place"
"she has among all her lovers "Her princes have become like
none to comfort her;" deer that find no pasture;"
Lamentaions 1:17, 1:3, 1:2, 1:6, (1:21)
Continuing with the Israelites comfort, they realized that their worldly comfort only left them and defiled them.
Jerusalem remembers
in the days of her affliction and wandering
all the precious things
that were hers from days of old.
When her people fell into the hand of the foe,
and there was none to help her,
her foes gloated over her;
they mocked at her downfall.
- Lamentaions 1:7
(1:8, 1:19)
The things that were once precious to them they now realized were filthy. This world deceives us. The worldly comforts of sin look white and beautiful, but are dark and gross.
7Her princes were purer than snow,
whiter than milk;
their bodies were more ruddy than coral,
the beauty of their form was like sapphire.
8 Now their face is blacker than soot;
they are not recognized in the streets;
their skin has shriveled on their bones;
it has become as dry as wood.
-Lamentations 4:7-8
Worldly comforts are only a snare for us to not cling to the only Hope, JESUS CHRIST. "They lay in wait for us in the wilderness." (4:19) If we put our comfort in this world, it's going to trap us when we are in our need. Friends, we must have our only comfort in JESUS. HE is the only True comfort.
"the Lord has made Zion forget
festival and Sabbath," - Lamentations 2:6
“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord God,
“when I will send a famine on the land—
not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water,
but of hearing the words of the Lord.
They shall wander from sea to sea,
and from north to east;
they shall run to and fro, to seek the word of the Lord,"
-Amos 8:11-12
The greatest and scariest famine is that of the LORD and HIS Word.
18 so I say, “My endurance has perished;
so has my hope from the Lord.”
20My soul continually remembers it
and is bowed down within me.
-Lamentations 3:18&20
When our view is on our circumstances and not the LORD, we will have no strength. For we do not have strength. This world is a place of sin and the weight of sin by trials will weigh us down. But, we have a Hope. Our minds must dwell on that Hope.
21But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
23they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
-Lamentations 3:21-24
Praising and worshipping our good LORD is what we must keep on our foremind. The LORD is our portion and our only hope is HIM. If we have a relationship with JESUS, we have everything we need in HIM.
54 water closed over my head;
I said, ‘I am lost.’
55 “I called on your name, O Lord,
from the depths of the pit;
56 you heard my plea, ‘Do not close
your ear to my cry for help!’
57 You came near when I called on you;
you said, ‘Do not fear!’
58“You have taken up my cause, O Lord;
you have redeemed my life.
The LORD has redeemed our life by covering us with JESUS' blood. What more do we need? HE is our portion, only comfort, and hope.
Let us live for the LORD, together!
For HIM,
Sabina
