Victorious Sacrifice!

Hello friends! Today's topic will be about how JESUS' last words on the cross were victorious!

When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then bowing his head, he gave up his spirit. ~ John 19:30 CSB

The Greek word for "It is finished" is so powerful! It actually means that debt is paid! They used this word on writings whenever a debt was paid. JESUS' last word on the cross meant that our debt was paid. The word is so beautiful and strong.

Here is what Charles Spurgeon wrote about this word:

"It is finished." There is only one Greek word for this utterance of our LORD, although to translate it into English, we have to use three words-an ocean of meaning in a drop of a language. Yet it would need all the other words ever spoken, or can ever be spoken, to explain this one word. It is altogether immeasurable. It is high-I can not attain it. It is deep-I can not fathom it.

I always knew that "It is finished," was the end of HIS death and that it was done. I never thought about how victorious those words, or word, really are! HE declared our debt of sin was paid! The battle has won!

We should not forget the weight of the cross, our sin, and death, HE had to carry for us. This word should make us feel that weight all the more. But, when HE died that weight was lifted! HE died with it! HE  destroyed it! Praise be to GOD as HE is the only one worthy to pay our debt!

Therefore, through him let us continually offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name. ~ Hebrews 13:15 CSB

In a loud voice they were saying: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!" ~ Revelation 5:12 CSB

It is also interesting because last night reading Scripture I read this verse about sacrifice:

Abraham answered, "God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." Then the two of them walked on together. ~ Genesis 22:8 CSB

GOD did not just provide a lamb for Abraham instead of Issac, HE also provided HIS SON, the only perfect and holy sacrifice to pay our debt. Abraham did not sacrifice his son, but GOD did.

Friends, I pray for you that just like I felt more of the weight of the cross today reading John 19, you do too. But, I also pray when you hear those words, "It is finished," you celebrate in victory that your debt was and is paid! And that the battle is over, HE has won!

Friend, praise GOD! You are forgiven! Your burden is lifted! HE loves you more than you can fathom.

Have a lovely day or night wherever you are!

HIS,
~Sabina
