The Warnings and Guidence of our Tongue

Hello friends! Today, I will be talking briefly on a theme the LORD reviled to me as I read Proverbs: our tongue.

James also talks a lot about the tongue. We must be slow to speak, (James 1:19) bridle it, (James 1:26) the tongue is small, (James 3:5) but also a fire. (James 3:5-6)

The most impactual passage to me in James about the tongue is chapter 3 verses 8 through 10. That we use our tongue to both bless the LORD and curse others. That very real and true statement should break our hearts.

Back to Proverbs! Here are some warning texts about our tongue that Solomon and the other writers of Proverbs warned about. (2:12, 2:16, 5:3, 7:21, 8:13, 10:6;8;10;11;14;18;19;31;32, 12:22, 17:4-5, 17:20, 18:21, 30:32-33)

These are not even all the passges in Proverbs about the warnings of our tongue. It is a very consistent theme. It is also very crutial to remember what JESUS says about sin and the Law, that even if you hate your brother in your heart, you are committing murder. (Matthew 5:21-22) So, if we speak evil in our hearts, we are still cursing with our tongue.

Besides all the warnings about our tongue and what not to say, there on many passages on what to fill our tongues with! (4:5, 5:1-2, 7:1, 8:1, 8:34, 10:21, 12:18, 18:21, 21:23, 22:11, 23:12)

Today, let us repent of all the curses we say with our tongue outloud, and in our hearts, and let us fill our tongues and hearts with GOD's Word and encouragement!!

Let us live for the LORD, together!
For HIM,
Sabina
